The ultimate goal of the Gagie School is to help each child become a very highly contributing member of society. A more short-term purpose is to develop within each child a very positive attitude toward school and learning. By understanding normal human growth and development and by using developmental scales, each child is monitored in the areas of physical (gross and motor), self help, cognitive, social and Language skills. Everything that goes on in the preschool has a definite purpose that is related to these areas of development. Curriculum is developed according to the individual needs of the children. Making sure each child achieves developmental skills appropriate for his or her age level is imperative to insure a strong foundation for later academic achievement.
The learning environment at the school is highly structured to insure the maximum learning conditions. About, one-half of each session is devoted to planned activities in small groups in which all the children participate. The other half of each session is devoted to free play time. The pupil-teacher ratio is no more than eight pupils to one teacher. A small snack of juice and crackers is provided by the school at each session. Parents are welcome to bring a snack for the group if they desire. Snacks such as fruit, cheese and pretzels are encouraged. Through the use of a few rules and positive reinforcement, children learn to control their behavior and to get along well with each other in play and work situations.
The normal procedure for enrollment involves parents placing their child’s name on an enrollment list, for a specific year. We accept new morning students who reach age three by December 1 of their enrolling year. That January, we invite parents to an orientation session based on their position on the enrollment list.
The requirements for admission are a $150 nonrefundable enrollment fee, a current immunization form and a completed Child information card. After a child is admitted, parents will be given the opportunity to select the number of days per week the child will attend. We encourage a minimum of three sessions per week. Children in the 3 year--old age group meet from 9:00-11:30 a.m - afternoon children (4 and 5 year-olds) meet from 12:30-3:00 p.m.
