Guiding Principles of Education for the "Whole Child"
Teacher expectation becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Expectations must be kept high so that we expect the most from each child and the child then expects the most from him/herself. A highly structured environment allows for flexibility within it to meet individual curricular and emotional needs. Positive reinforcement of a few rules provides the framework for positive behavior in and out of the classroom. Teachers understand that developmental levels, individual differences and learning styles provide the basis for each child's grouping and daily work. Assessing, prescribing lessons, implementing them based on learning style and individual differences then evaluating each session or lesson provides for each subsequent plan as the cycle repeats each day. Students will come to value the 3 R's as key to success in all other academic endeavors.
